It is so disheartening to see so many of our young people dying here in The Bahamas; so young and talented. So many expectations and dreams left unfulfilled. The late Dr Myles Munroe once said that the graveyard is the richest place on earth, being filled with so much unfulfilled potential.
We, who profess to know Jesus, need to go out and reach this generation termed Generation Z, or Centennials. Generation Z was preceded by Generation Y, better known as millennials. Generation Z is a generation that is culturally inclined to electronics. The church certainly needs to do something to address the conundrum before our eyes. Our way of thinking sometimes can be detrimental and too primitive when seeking to evangelise this generation.
My article, however, intends to convey that we need to beckon our young people, as they embark upon another school year, to put God first.
Matthew 6:33 says: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." Let me emphasise here first that the kingdom of God is not a geographical place. The kingdom of God, for all intents and purposes, is the way God does things. It's God's governance of things; God's rulership.
Jesus said in Luke 17:20-21: "The kingdom of God does not come with observation. Nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For the kingdom of God is within you." It's God's governance, not His residence!
We seek house, car, wife, husband, money, health, and almost any and everything except a robust relationship the Lord Jesus Christ. Young people, put God first! Let this be your philosophy in life, your school of thought: Jesus.
The nation needs you to step up and to take hold of your country as a nation-builder. The Scripture that I mentioned earlier is so straightforward and poignant. Put God first, young people!
If I've learned anything from what is currently going on in the Bahamas that you're not too young to die. Therefore seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
