The Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves can now lay claim as the dominant soccer programe in the GSSSA junior division.
The Timberwolves won both the junior boys and girls titles in their respective matchups against the SC McPherson Sharks yesterday in the championship finale at the Roscow AL Davies Soccer Field.
In the girls game, Desny LaFleur was once again the hero for the Anatol Rodgers as the long goal scorer in her team’s 1-0 win.
“We worked hard for this all year and this feels amazing,” she said, “It was a tough game, back and forward all day, we had a couple opportunities and I was just happy I made one for my team.”
Anatol Rodgers head coach Cleon Carnegie said the win was a fitting way to end the season for his team.
“I could not be more pleased with them and I’m so proud of their effort. They put in so much work. We trained in the sun, we trained in the rain and that’s why they play so hard,” he said, “ They’ve been together from September, they have gotten better and better but they also play with heart and they are a good group to work with. I know it was going down to that final stretch so it would come down to heart and these girls have that”
The junior boys followed with a 4-1 win to seal an undefeated day for the school.
The T’Wolves got goals from Ellie Chery, Wilky Mondseir and Kevinson Felix while the Sharks’ Lamond Cross scored an own goal.
Cross was also the lone goal scorer for the Sharks.
Attention now shifts to the senior division as they decide championship this afternoon, beginning at 4pm.
The CR Walker Knights will have both their boys and girls teams in the final.
The boys will take on the GHS Magic while the girls will face the Timberwolves.
In the boys semifinal, the Knights defeated the Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins while the Magic defeated the Timberwolves 2-0.
The Knights’ senior girls defeated the Mystic Marlins 4-0 decision and the Timberwolves prevailed with a 2-0 decision over the CV Bethel Stingrays.
