The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) has met with the Organisation of American States (OAS) country representative in a bid to bolster its efforts to assist small businesses.
The meeting with Phyllis Baron explored opportunities and avenues to strengthen the assistance provided to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The BDB also talked about opportunities to access institutional strengthening and technical assistance in a number of areas.
Dave Smith, the BDB’s managing director, and Mrs Barron agreed that the BDB and OAS could work together to support economic development - especially the former’s mandate to grow and diversify the economy.
Mrs Baron, who was appointed as OAS country representative for The Bahamas in September 2018, said it had made significant contributions to the broader economy by working with a number of other government agencies and strategic partners. The OAS contributed $2.8m in scholarships and $3m in trade and economic development in 2018.
