Inspired by the convention theme “Rise Up and Take Your Journey”, the world famous Bahama Brass Band joined forces with the leadership and members of the Church of God of Prophecy’s Love Centre on Ernest Street last Saturday to proclaim the gospel.
Music is a universal language and a medium to attract audiences. And it was the tool used to gather onlookers as the brass band members and church parishioners – headed by Bishop Jeffrey Knowles and Minister Branson Gibson – paraded along the streets in the Pond to Potter’s Cay Dock.
The parade ended at the historic Retirement Park, located East Bay and Mackey Street. An outreach evangelistic service then ensued, encompassing praise and worship, scripture reading and a testimony.
The preached word came from Minister Anischa Baker, who reminded listeners of the return of the Lord and to accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Prayers were offered, gospel witnessing tracts were given and lives were touched as the appeal for the salvation was made. This effort resulted in many from the community visiting the Ernest Street church the following day.
This community outreach, dubbed “Operation Save Our Community”, marks the 10th partnership between the Bahama Brass Band and a church. Churches from previous street missions included Churches of God of Prophecy – Fox Hill, Elizabeth Estate, Pinewood/Soldier Road, Gambier Village, Augusta Street/Farrington Road, Minnie Street, Marshall Road, and Englerston.
The Bahama Brass Band is the international music ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy and has been playing “music with spirit” for the past 94 years.
