A PAIR of Bahamian senior men’s national basketball team players will be on the move to new franchises this fall in their pro careers.
Mike Carey Jr will head to the LEB Silver league in Spain while Tavario Miller exits the LEB Silver for the Uruguayan Basketball League.
Carey signed with ICG Forca Lleida and will join the second-tier league in Spain for the 2019-2020 season.
The 6’5” combo guard last played with the Huracanes de Tampico of Mexico’s premier basketball league, Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional.
He comes off a strong summer with the Bahamian national team when he averaged 16 points, 5.5 assists and four rebounds in the third window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifier.
Carey spent the previous season with Étoile Charleville-Mézières of French Basketball’s Pro B Division, the second-tier level league in the country alongside fellow Bahamian teammate Zane Knowles.
Carey’s first pro assignment came with Soles de Santo Domingo of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto (LNB) in the Dominican Republic where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
He completed his two-year career at Wagner University with a number of accolades for his numbers in the senior season, including Third Team All-Metropolitan, First Team All-Northeast Conference, All-NEC Tournament honours and the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 18 First Team.
Miller will join Union Athletic Club in Uruguay in his third season of professional basketball.
Miller played last season at Grupo Eleyco Baskonia and in 33 games with the club, he averaged 11.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
In the previous season, Miller’s team made it to the Norwegian BLNO Semi-finals in 2018. He was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Norwegian BLNO 2nd Team in 2018. At the national team level, he has regularly played for the Bahamas senior team since 2015 and previously for the U-17 National Team back in 2011.
Miller represented the Bahamas at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) last year and through five games averaged 6.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. He also played professionally in Mexico and Norway (Fyllingen BBK).
Miller concluded his collegiate career with the Texas A and M Aggies. As a senior he saw action in all 31 games, drawing two starts while averaging 10.4 minutes per contest and averaging 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
