THE Bahamas' three-member team of Izaak Bastian, Davante Carey and Lamar Taylor continue to make their presence felt at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Taylor, the Grand Bahamian native, got an opportunity yesterday to compete in two events at the Duna Arena with collegian sophomores Bastian, who attends Florida State University and Carey, who is at McKendree University.
In the men's 50m freestyle, Taylor had his best showing, placing 31st overall, while Bastian ended up 33rd. Taylor touched the wall in 23.52 seconds for 10th place in heat 10 and Bastian was eighth in heat 12 in 23.60.
Taylor and Carey also competed in the men's 50m backstroke. Carey placed 41st in 27.09 and Taylor was 42nd in 27.31 as they both placed tenth in heat eight and six respectively.
Carey was coming off a 40th place finish the day before in the preliminaries of the men's 100m butterfly. He clocked 55.92 with splits of 25.50 and 30.42 as he ended up eighth in heat six.
Today, the trio will be back in action.
Taylor will swim out of heat six of the men's 50m butterfly and Carey will be competing out of heat seven.
And Bastian will be entered in the men's 200m breaststroke where he is in heat seven.
Bastian had the best showing so far by any of the three Bahamians, coming back for a second swim in the men's 100m breaststroke. He placed sixth in the semi-final of his heat in 1:01.99 for 11th place overall with splits of 28.96 and 33.03.
In the preliminaries, Bastian came in sixth in his heat in 1:02.55 for 14th overall, producing splits of 29.30 and 33.25.
The team is being managed by Rochelle Bastian with Sara Knowles as the head coach, assisted by Drew Bastian.
The championships will close on Sunday.
