Design choices don’t seem to work out well for Lanisha Rolle. The Youth, Sports and Culture Minister notoriously came under heavy fire in November for handing out medals to young people at a youth in parliament event in October.
(She was blasted for putting her face on the medals).
In fact, so much so that Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis had her told to repay the Government $582.40 — the cost of the medals.
Now the tree in Rawson Square costs a little “less than $20,000” another alleged blunder.
The Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture has removed the widely mocked décor on the National Christmas tree and replaced them with more traditional universal décor.
Culture Director Rowena Poitier Sutherland said on December 5, 2019: “I think the underwater theme which lends to the tropical and island theme is not only appropriate but it lends to a more tropical theme than a European décor.’’
Like everyone else I also feel that the underwater scene with sea horses, star fishes and conch shells were quite appropriate. The apex of the tree could have used either a mermaid and/or a star fish.
Byron Coley Austin, manager of the Tiki Bikini Hut on long wharf, had on his tree flip-flop sandals with the words painted: “The Beach is my happy place” with yachts’ steering wheels and Royal Blue mesh fabric, hugging the tree as décor, etc.
Europeans don’t want to see a foreign tree in a tropical environment; they want to see something cultural and different to take pictures of and show friends, etc. That is why they travel.

An underwater theme would be nice. But it shouldn't be done with lucky charms shapes and colors.

the tree was too flat..some of the shapes should have been 3-D, junkanoo people created a giant motorcycle for bay...they must be able to do a conch shell...and the colours were off... there are lots of popping colours under the sea... the ministry should have previewed a sample tree before sign off on the idea. bring back the same idea next year with better colours and better workmanship...give them a small budget to create sample pieces for approval
