FOR some time now, Samita Ferguson, a woman who wears numerous hats as a mother, business woman and founder of C.H.A.M.P.S, has been digging deeper into her creative side.
Not only has she been juggling her roles, Mrs Ferguson has taken her playwriting skills to the next level with the production of a short film to be unveiled this Sunday.
Mrs Ferguson is presenting her new short film, Broken, in conjunction with the the Church of God of Prophecy Love Centre’s Winter Production this Sunday.
The film was written and produced by Mrs Ferguson and film director Gary Wong.
The short film speaks about various issues that are faced among families. Mrs Ferguson believes it will leave audiences with hope and on a quest to find peace.
“It is a short film so it will show bits of family situations and how coming together in counsel and faith could bring healing,” she told Tribune Religion.
“Real life” has been the inspiration for the film, she said.
“This year has been a year of trials for many. Many homes have experienced some sort of brokenness, whether via losing a loved one, financial dilemmas; some weary in hope and faith, others knowing He will come through but perhaps may experience a hard time coming to grips with their hope. The idea to create a story was birthed from those factors. The unexpected can happen to anyone, but at the end of the road there is still hope if one simply believes,” Mrs Ferguson said.
Some of the main themes are death and financial distress.
While Mrs Ferguson has been producing plays for several years, she is excited to now move in the direction of short films.
“I have presented a few short plays/productions on numerous occasions, but for a few years now, my dream was to showcase short film; with some brilliant actors/actresses from the Church of God of Prophecy Love Centre along with some friends from other ministries.
“I woke up one morning and sensed that now was the time. Knowing the voice of God is important; it will give you clarity in terms of what direction to take. Once one obeys, the father will open up doors and allow things to happen in time. As a result of my obedience, doors were opened, connections were made and the film director was sealed. I cannot explain to date how connecting with Mr Wong came about; I heard about his work and saw a clip of one of his production pieces. I am a firm believer in empowering young people and trusting them with their talents so we took a chance with Gary and I am sure we will not be disappointed,” she said.
