LACKLUSTER LAKERS
After whiffing on acquiring New Orleans Pelicans All Star forward Anthony Davis, Lakers president Magic Johnson wasn’t happy with the way things went at the trade deadline.
There are still big fish out there, and the team has now switched its focus to the off season free agency period.
“That’s not going to change our plans this summer,” Johnson said Sunday, on ESPN.com.
“It’s a great [free-agency] class, and we just want to get one of them.”
Depending on what maneuvering certain super stars try to do, the impending free-agent class is shaping up to be a big one.
Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving and DeMarcus Cousins are among those who could be available, and the Lakers will certainly have the cap room to show interest to all.
Klay Thompson is from Southern California and could want to return home once he hits free agency.
Playing with James could also be a draw for a number of players regardless of position.
The Lakers got a huge win in free agency this past offseason when LeBron signed a four-year deal. Unfortunately, his arrival has been lackluster up until this point, and recently he has missed time due to a groin injury, and a bad case of pouting.
In addition to James, mood swings, the young players on the roster haven’t lived up to their lofty expectations either.
After Sunday’s humiliating loss to the young talented Philadelphia 76ers, the Lakers are now 28-28 on the season and just 8-14 since Christmas.
Mediocrity at its finest!
In my opinion it’s painfully obvious, it will take another ‘star’ player for this Laker team to be competitive in the Western Conference, now and in the foreseeable future.
Klay Thompson, come on over!
