It’s the season of love! And with Valentine’s Day just a few days away, Bahamians are rushing to make last-minute preparations for the special day.
It’s true, for some women Valentine’s Day is considered one of the best times of the year...a fancy dinner, elaborate gift baskets, flower bouquets, and maybe even a proposal await. Meanwhile, for others, especially those who fit in the single category, it’s just another one of those days that they wish could disappear altogether. Because contrary to popular belief, not everyone feels like love is in the air.
Being without a plus one on Valentine’s Day can truly suck, but just because you’re single doesn’t mean you have to feel left out from the festivities.
The whole purpose of Valentine’s Day is celebrating love and happiness, which truth be told, you should find first within yourself. Whether you’ve recently ended a relationship or have been single for so long that you’re used to completely ignoring all February 14 shenanigans, there are still many things you can do to make Valentine’s Day an enjoyable and unforgettable event.
- Be your own valentine
Love is patient. Love is kind. So be your own Valentine! Whether that means going out to your favourite restaurant, visiting the closest movie theatre near you, or just hanging out at a popular local spot, treat yourself to a nice evening out and make the most out of being your own date.
- Netflix and chill at home
There’s nothing wrong with staying home on Valentine’s Day to binge-watch Netflix shows. Doing a TV show marathon featuring your favourite celebrity (maybe even eye candy) or enjoying romantic comedies might just be the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day – peaceful, happy and with some laughs.
- Spend some quality time with your family
Being surrounded by people you love on the day of love is definitely a good idea. Valentine’s Day is not only for the romantic kind of love, but is for anyone who has a loved one in their life. Make those close to you feel appreciated on Valentine’s Day, and in doing so, you may see your sentiments and efforts reciprocated.
- Have a ladies night out
In the words of Beyoncé: “All the single ladies, now put your hands up!” So meet up with some single friends and just celebrate love and friendship. Even if you end up reminiscing about former lovers, you can still use that time to bond with your girlfriends and reflect on what you have learned from past relationships and how it has made you stronger.
- Pamper yourself
It’s true, self-care is the best sort of care, so if you’re feeling down and blue, go to one of your favourite beauty or spa stores and treat yourself to a nice pedicure or manicure. I mean, what better way is there to life your spirits on Valentine’s Day than indulging in some very much needed pampering?
