TWO Dominican men accused of possessing fraudulent Bahamian documents were arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Julio Armando Melo Mejia, 36, and Yeison Medina Reyes, 21, stood before Magistrate Kara Deveaux-Turnquest charged with one count each of unlawful use of a forged document and possession of a forged document.
The pair travelled from Providenciales, Turk and Caicos to New Providence on Thursday, February 7.
In the case of Melo Mejia, according to the particulars, while at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on that date, he presented a fraudulent visa, #2018444980, to an immigration officer knowing that it was false.
On the same date, Melo Mejia also possessed a fraudulent Bahamian work permit, #W000464512, knowing that it was forged.
In the case of Medina Reyes, according to the particulars, while at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on that date, he presented a fraudulent visa, #2018444979, to an immigration officer knowing that it was false.
On the same date, Melo Mejia also possessed a fraudulent Bahamian work permit, #W000462105, knowing that it was forged.
Both men pleaded guilty to the charges and were fined $1,000 or one year in prison on each charge.
On payment of the fines or on completion of their sentences, the two are to be released to the Department of Immigration for processing and deportation.
