TWO championships have been awarded thus far and the final day of the BAISS basketball championship series will feature two divisions playing third and decisive games.

New champions will be crowned in both the Junior Boys and Senior Girls divisions this afternoon at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.

The Jordan Prince William Falcons will face the Queen’s College Comets in Junior Boys play while the St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine and St John’s College Giants will meet in the Senior Girls division.

The Comets extended the series with a 52-49 win over the Falcons Friday night while the Big Red Machine were able to fend off elimination with a 45-41 win over the Giants.

The Giants Senior Boys captured the 2019 title in thrilling fashion Friday night with a 62-61 double overtime win over the Comets.

Tyrese Porter was named the series MVP.

The Giants seemingly won with a tip in at the end of regulation, however the basket was waved off at the end of regulation and forced overtime. Torrez Basden made the go ahead free throw with 1:40 left to play and made a big defensive stop on the defensive end to secure the win. The Comets came up with a late steal but a long range two pointer missed off the back iron as the Giants faithful rushed the floor in celebration.

The two teams previously met in 2015 when the Giants ended a a 20-year drought in the division with a two-game sweep over the Comets. The Comets last won the division title in 2013 and 2014.

The Big Red Machine Junior Girls defeated the Giants 40-33 to win back-to-back titles.

Junior national team standout Antonicia Moultrie was named the series MVP.
