37th Hugh Campbell: Teams eliminated on day 4

DAY four of the 37th Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic featured the first round of eliminations in this year’s event while several winning teams went head-to-head.

Elimination Round

Gateway (Bimini) Eagles - 48

Mt Carmel Cavaliers - 29

The defending two-time national champion in the Family Island division won their first game of this year’s tournament.

Bradley Lightbourne scored a game high 17 and Chester McPhee added 14. Terron Babbs led Mt Carmel with nine.

Patrick A Bethel (Abaco) - 55

CW Saunders Cougars - 23

Edwin Ferguson led three Patrick A Bethel players in double figures with 13 points while Nakajah Adderley and Devon Sims each scored 10. Toreque Cartwright led CW Saunders with a game high 15 points.

St John’s College Giants - 55

Central Eleuthera - 38

The BAISS champions rebounded from an opening round loss to fend off elimination. It was a quick 10-point lead for the Giants less than two minutes into the first quarter of a wire-to-wire win.

Tyrese Porter led St John’s with 19 points, Jordan Maycock scored 14, Immanuel Carey had 10 points and seven rebounds while Torrez Basden seven points and 11 rebounds.

Judson Francis led Central Eleuthera with 17 points.

St John’s led 17-4 at the end of the first and 31-19 at the half. Carey’s tip in with 25 seconds left in the third gave the Giants a 20-point lead, 48-28 and they took a 50-30 lead into the fourth.

Zion Christian - 23

Akapheran International - 20

Akeem Ellis led Zion Christian with eight points and a game high 12 rebounds while Antivan McFarland scored seven. Deshawn Oliver and Alvinado Parker each scored five for Akapheran.

Jordan Prince William Falcons - 54

Kingsway Academy Saints - 37

In the Falcons’ second game of the afternoon, Quebell Martin kept his team alive with a game high 17 points. Prince McPhee and Michael Johnson each scored nine. Ashton Webb led Kingsway with 12 points.

A trio of elimination games remained undecided up to press time last night - Government High vs Teleos, St Anne’s vs Eight Mile Rock, CV Bethel vs Agape.

Winners Bracket

Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves - 60

Agape Christian Eagles - 44

Kevin Thompson led Anatol Rodgers with 16 points, Jermaine Mackey had 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists while Tyrell Butler had eight points, five rebounds and three steals.

Reagan Roberts led Agape with 11 points, Juvens Louivious scored nine and Welton Chersime finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.

A back and forth game throughout the first quarter concluded with a Roberts three that tied the game at 10 at the end of the first quarter. The T’Wolves built an early five point lead when K’Jay Nixon made a layup for a 20-15 score. Agape tied the game at 20 and took the lead with a 7-0 run capped by a pair of Roberts free throws. Roberts made the final two jumpers of the second to give Agape a 26-23 lead at the half. The T’Wolves took control of the game for good in the third quarter when they outscored Agape 20-6. Just under two minutes into the quarter, Anatol Rodgers took a 29-28 lead on a Butler layup and closed the remainder of the quarter on a 14-4 run.

Jack Hayward Wildcats - 53

Jordan Prince William Falcons - 44

Darrell Duncombe led three Wildcats in double figures with 15 points, Leron Smith scored 12 with eight rebounds while Tramaine Ferguson had 10 points and four steals.

The Wildcats led 12-4 after the first quarter and went ahead by double digits for the first time when Ferguson made a free throw and converted a three point play for a 15-4 lead. Duncombe would score the final three points of the quarter and Jack Hayward led 27-16 at the half. The Wildcats built an 18 point lead early in the third and took a 41-24 lead into the fourth.

Quebell Martin led the Falcons with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Prince McPhee had nine points.

St George’s Jaguars - 39

Teleos Cherubims - 27

Samuel Pinder had a another dominant performance for the Grand Bahama Secondary School Athletic Association champion with 16 points. Shavaul Butters scored seven and the Jaguars didn’t need much else as they cruised to their second win of the tournament.

Daniel Adams led Teleos with 12 points.

The Jaguars limited Teleos to just a single field goal in the first and took a 10-2 lead. They led 20-10 at the half, and used the opportunity to give their main rotation an opportunity to rest and give their bench valuable playing time for the remainder of the low scoring contest.

CC Sweeting Cobras - 57

Eight Mile Rock Blue Jays- 44

Anton Williams had 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals to lead the Cobras while Ethan Munnings had 16 points and eight rebounds and Clifton Barr had 11 points.

Khaim Walker had 17 points to lead the Blue Jays and Hilton Pinder scored 14.
