THE NCAA Track and Field Indoor season continues and in addition to the D-1 collegians, several senior elite athletes were also in competition on the circuit.
At the 2019 Gamecock Invitational hosted at the South Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex, Steven Gardiner, Jeffery Gibson and Teray Smith all represented Empire Athletics in the 300m.
Gardiner finished first in 33.03 seconds, Smith was fourth overall in 33.75 and Gibson was fifth overall in 34.61.
Charisma Taylor continues to set jumping records for the Washington State Cougars. At the 17th WSU Indoor meet, she broke the previous Cougar Freshman Indoor Record in the triple jump at 12.54m (41-feet 1.75 inches). She also finished second in the long jump at 5.77m (18-feet 11.25 inches).
Texas Southern University senior sprinter Alexis Gray was honoured by the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Gray was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning two races at Texas A&M’s Ted Nelson Invitational. She clocked in at 7.49 in the 60m race and finished in 24.12 in the 200 metre dash.
Competing for the Texas-El Paso Miners at the Texas A and M Triangular Meet, Shakeem Smith took second in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.08.
In the field, Jyles Etienne took another first place in the high jump for the Indiana Hoosiers Gladstein Invite. Etienne cleared a height of 2.13m (6’ 11.75”) for the win.
Daejha Moss took the Bison Team Cup high jump title, clearing an indoor personal-best (1.73m) that ranks 8th in North Dakota State University history.
The Purdue Boilermakers were in action at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Samson Colebrooke finished second with a time of 6.73.
Penn State senior Keianna Albury finished second in the 200m (24.12) and fourth in the 60m in 7.57 at the 2019 Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational.
At the Red Raider Invitational, Houston Cougars Brianne Bethel finished third in the 60m in 7.43.
Tiffany Hanna competed for Wagner University at the Penn 8-Team Select and placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 15.89m.
