JUNIOR Joshua Turnquest has been chosen as the 2018-19 River States Conference Male Athlete of the Year.
The 6-foot, 2-inch graduate of CV Bethel Senior High led the voting of the athletic directors in the league.
As a junior, Turnquest was an NAIA All-American and the No. 16-ranked player in the country by the ITA.
Turnquest is a three-time NAIA All-American. He led Asbury back to the NAIA national tournament for the third year in a row while the Eagles captured their third-consecutive RSC Men’s Tennis Championship with Turnquest leading the way as RSC Player of the Year.
He dominated the RSC his entire career, and the 2018-19 year was no different.
Turnquest went undefeated in RSC action this year to claim conference player of the year for the third time in a row.
Overall, Turnquest posted a record of 15-2 in singles play and 13-4 in doubles for the year. His career record is 50-5 in singles matches.
Turnquest finished up the year with two victories in Asbury’s NAIA national tournament match.
The Eagles came up short to No. 10-ranked Union (Ky.) by a score of 6-3 in the first round.
But that was not without Turnquest picking up a victory at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 and an 8-4 victory in No. 2 doubles along with teammate Felipw Penuela.
Those were a pair of highlights on the year, along with a win over the No. 3-ranked player in the country earlier in the season.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulated Turnquest and indicated that they are looking forward to much more tennis achievements in his journey.
