Do we today really have National Pride or is it just a thing for the next day or so? We are asked to don our Gold-Turquoise and Black as if that means anything except to the shop selling the gear because I don’t think it does.
Gold - we see the precious shiny valuable metal but really where do we see it today in our Bahamas - where? What I see ashamedly is a tarnished gold in need of a lot of polish.
Turquoise - that incandescent light light blue not shinning these days may be too many BP&L outages but that the past level of encandescantcy has gone so uniquely Bahamian - Exuma.
Black - used to be the colour of death but today used for celebration - smartness but I see darkness in the perspective and focus of our people - 4000 leave our school annually and virtually have little chance to find reasonable employment…those over 38 God-help-you, you are made redundant as your next years will be thwarted with constant stress trying desperately to find some gainful work.
Yes, we will wish each other Happy Independence and God be with you, but deep down we are troubled – very troubled.
