THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) has partnered with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture to host a tennis summer camp at the National Tennis Centre.
The camp facilitator and junior development head for the BLTA, Perry Newton, has directed the camp over the last four weeks.
As the camp comes to a close this week, the campers and instructors are focused on putting all they have learned into competitive play. The camp had up to 40 participants.
Yesterday, the camp was visited by ministry officials where some of the campers had a friendly match against the visiting officials.
Newton said the summer camp was an awesome experience and a pure joy to see the tennis development of the participants.
In the programme, there was a wide range of persons from primary school to high school students and even some college students.
“We were able to take campers who were beginners in tennis and get them to a point where they could play, serve and hit a forehand and backhand.
“There was also eagerness in the camp instructors whose ability to develop teaching techniques was improved, they prepared and conducted tennis lessons.”
It is the hope that this tennis summer camp is the start of an ongoing love by the participants for the sport of tennis.
