Eleven Christian leaders will be honoured this Saturday when the second annual Geraldine Victoria Award of Appreciation celebration will be held at the Church of God on Bernard Road.
The theme for this year's event, hosted once again by DOVS Enterprise, is "The Heart Of A Servant". The awards ceremony starts at 7pm and will see the following individuals being honoured: Bishop Daniel Hall, Sr of Church of God, Bernard Road; Pastor Sonia and Rev Deion Rolle of Cornerstone Outreach Ministry; Minister Elizabeth Bain of WORD Ministries International; Rev Delarease Allen of Cargill Creek, Andros; Marvin Saunders of Fine Tune Pro; Denise Major of The Empowerment Group; Katherine Beneby II of KBII Communications; Kryshanda Bethel of Motivation Is My Ministry; Natasha Rahming of G2 (God's Girls); Rhonda Darville of The God Parent Centre, and Khandi Gibson of FOAM.
Speakers will will include DOVS Enterprise founder Tamika Campbell and Cheryl Rolle. Entertainment will be provided by The Rahming Brothers.
DOVS stands for "Delivering Outstanding Value and Services", and Ms Campbell said it has always been a dream of hers to lead an organisation that empowers people.
Inspired by her late grandmother, Geraldine Victoria Forbes-Hall, Tamika is happy to use DOVS Enterprise as an avenue to acknowledge Bahamians, and especially women, who go above and beyond in helping others without been seen or heard of publicly.
"In the words of the late Geraldine Victoria, 'come to be a blessing, to receive a blessing and out the doors I go.' She was a true example of these words. She lived and practiced what she preached. She was a woman who helped persons in need and was genuinely concerned about them. She was a God-fearing, no-nonsense woman of God; she was the prayer-band leader and evangelist for many years at her church. Her routine was visiting the hospitals, and anywhere the Lord sent her to preach and share the word. She was known for her kind heart, generosity, hospitality, and simply for being the community's prayer warrior. She would encourage everyone who she met and prayed for them. She never asked for anything in return; she never did it for fame or to be recognised, but was just doing her duty as a Christian," she said.
Honouring and remembering the life her grandmother lived, Ms Campbell said she hopes to also be a blessing to those in need. During Saturday's event, donations will be made in her grandmother's name to assist the Evangelism Team and the community of Fox Hill.
"In this our second year, we are introducing The Nelson and Marlene Brown Award of Heart. This award is dear to my heart. It is in honour of my parents, as on top of depicting the qualities of the Geraldine Victoria Award, they have displayed strength, perseverance and they never complained about what was going on but were truly thankful and grateful to God," said Ms Campbell.
Tickets for this weekend's award service are available at $25 for adults, and $10 for kids ages 5-11. For more information, call (242) 428-2455.
