THE Royal Bahamas Police Force’s 26th annual youth summer camp kicked off yesterday with an opening ceremony held at Church of God of Prophecy on East Street.
The church was filled with excited campers and members of the RPBF, with remarks delivered by National Security Minister Marvin Dames and Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson.
Mr Dames commended Commissioner Ferguson for hosting “what can be described as the most successful summer camp” in the country. To the campers, he said having fun is important as well as “preparing you as the future of this nation to take on the baton from us”.
Speaking to reporters following the ceremony, Commissioner Ferguson said the RBPF will continue to be “vigilant” in keeping children safe this summer, while admonishing parents to do the same.
“We had hoped that parents take advantage of this summer camp over the next six weeks and enrol their children there so they could have some wholesome activities and safe environment that they can be during the period of the camp,” he said.
About 4,000 children are expected to take part in the summer camp this year.
