BLTA's Junkanoo Bowl starts today

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association is getting ready to begin its annual International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junkanoo Bowl Tournament at the National Tennis Centre today.

The event features top junior tennis talent from local and abroad. This year is expected to be no different with the following persons representing from the Bahamas in the U18: Sydney Clarke, Donte Armbrister, Jacobi Bain, Peyton Anderson, Elana Mackey, Kofi Bowe, Denali Nottage, Sydni Kerr, Gabrielle Simms, Anthony Burrows Jr., Perjae Major, Kinza Johnson and Michael Major Jr. These players will all play in main draw action that starts today.

Besides the Bahamas, countries represented include the USA, France, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina, China and others.

Concurrently, the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association will be hosting another junior tournament series for the U16 and U14 categories. This tournament is the second of three new tennis tournaments.

In an effort to give junior players more match play and more competition, the executive board of the BLTA, upon recommendation of the sanctions committee, has added three new 14s and 16s tournaments to the tennis tournament calendar this year.

The public is cordially invited to attend the tennis sessions in support of both local and international tournaments.

Match play begins at 9am at the NTC. Admission is free so friends, family and tennis enthusiasts can come and cheer on the local talent and enjoy some high quality tennis matches amongst some of the best in junior tennis locally and internationally. The tournament referee is Mickey Williams.
