The youthful Foxxy Angels avenged their opening loss to even their New Providence Women’s Basketball Association best-of-five championship series with the defending champions Bee’s Trucking.
At the DW Davis Gymnasium last night, the Foxxy Angels avoided going into a deep hole by snatching an impressive 76-65 victory over Bee’s Trucking, who took game one 64-60 on Tuesday night.
Foxxy Angels, coached by Anthony Swaby, saw Denika Lightbourne explode for a game high 23 points with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead a balanced attack.
Veronique Charlton had 19 points with four assists and four steals, Karolyn Baptiste had 10 points and three steals and Michelle Butler added eight points and seven rebounds.
Latavia Brennen contributed six points and eight rebounds and Tanisha Seymour finished with five points.
Bee’s Trucking, coached by Donnie Culmer, could wrap up the series on Saturday night. If they don’t, the Foxxy Angels could force a fourth game next week Tuesday.
The trio of Britinique Harrison, Chrishandra Rahming and Ruthann Simms once again provided the offensive spark for Bee’s Trucking, but it wasn’t enough to propel them to another victory.
Simms exploded for 17 points and five rebounds, Harrison had 16 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks, four steals and three assists and Rahming chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and as many steals.
Briantae Stevens helped out with six points, Sheldeen Joseph had five points and Shanovia Neely had four points.
The pivotal game three in the series is scheduled for 7:30pm on Saturday.
