CHARLES Bain and the Robert Morris Colonials are moving on to the second round of the 2019 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

Bain finished with seven points and four rebounds in the Colonials’ 98-89 overtime win over Cornell on Tuesday night.

At 18-16, the Colonials clinched a winning season.

Bain had an opportunity for a potential game winner when he grabbed an offensive rebound off a Josh Williams missed three pointer with three seconds left to play, but missed a jumper as time expired.

With seven points against Cornell, it brought an end to Bain’s streak of four consecutive games scoring in double figures.

Robert Morris will learn its next opponent, as first round games in the 2019 CIT are played the rest of the week and conclude on Saturday, March 23.

“A wild game. Not a lot of defence by either team, but we were able to get a few stops when we switched to the zone,” said head coach Andrew Toole. “I thought down the stretch our guys got energised, and that was great to see. Sometimes that’s what you need to get over the hump.”

Robert Morris fell behind by double digits for the 10th time in the last 13 games and has erased eight of those deficits. “The 20 turnovers was huge for us,” Toole said.

“A lot of that was just based off activity. That’s what we kept talking about in timeouts. Could we get a deflection or do something that can give us an opportunity to get a stop, because when they were shooting it they weren’t missing very often.”

Robert Morris has posted a record of 17-16 (.515) in 2018-19. The Colonials finished in a tie for third place in the Northeast Conference with a mark of 11-7 (.611).

The Colonials fell in the semi-finals of the Northeast Conference Tournament 62-60 to No. 2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson who went on to the NCAA Tournament.

RMU is making its eighth postseason appearance in the last 12 seasons.
