A breakout indoor season for sprint hurdler Sasha Wells produced a top honour in her conference.

Wells, a sophomore with the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles, was named the Summit League’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She became the first Golden Eagle in conference history to achieve the honour.

A season of milestones was highlighted by her performance at the 2019 Summit League Championships where she was named MVP after earning a total of 26 points.

She tied the league championship record and broke her own school record in the 60-metre hurdle preliminaries, with her time of 8.41 seconds.

She took first place in the the 60m (7.54), the 60m hurdles (8.47) and finished third in the 200m (24.54).

She achieved an “All-League” honour in each event.

She won the 60m hurdles at four of five meets on the indoor circuit, including the Arkansas Invitational, JD Martin Invitational, Gorilla Classic and Summit League Championship.

She also finished third at the Mark Colligan Memorial.

Wells was the youngest student athlete to win an “Athlete of the Year” award, joining seniors Paytton Ottherdahl and Bailey Retzlaff of North Dakota State and Kyle Burdick of South Dakota State.

The League announced the awards yesterday following a vote by its head coaches for their outstanding performances throughout the indoor track and field season.

Well done Sasha!
