Tomorrow, gospel artist Shanique Thurston will release her first piece of new music in six years.
The comeback song, simply called “Jesus”, was written by her and produced by Vincent “V-Mac” McDonald Jr. It is also the lead single for her upcoming album which is set to be released this Fall.
Supporters may know Shanique from her the reality TV show “242 Untapped”, of which she is the first season winner. She has also won a Marlin Award for her music.
According to Shanique’s team, Edgy Management, after winning the show, she took some time off to find herself. Shanique herself said she had to grow and mature, not just as an artist, but spiritually as well.
“I believe God prepared me for this moment and that moment is now. I wrote this song while preparing for the grand finale of ‘242 Untapped’ in 2012. I was in prayer seeking God for direction of what to minister to, and driving home from work, I began to meditate and ‘Jesus’ was the song that God gave me,” said Shanique.
Shanique honed her musical skills over the years, singing in church and school choirs, and taking part in numerous talent search competitions and pageants. These opportunities afforded her the opportunity to travel across the United States to showcase her vocals.
“After discovering her gift she took a bold spirit and was afforded to minister with many recording artist nationally and internationally. Making melodies with her gift is where she finds comfort and relief,” her management team said.
“She embraced the international platform, travelling to New York to the Apollo to perform before hundreds. She also shared the stage with BeBe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Tasha Cobbs and many more more.”
Shanique is a member of Life Changers Ministries International where she serves as a leader in the music department. She is a worshipper at heart and hopes to fulfil God’s will for her life through her ministry in music.
