WITH the aim of educating the community on ways they can truly live healthy lifestyles in the long term, Solomon’s Fresh Market will be hosting its fourth annual Fun Walk & Health Fair.

The event will be held this Saturday at the Old Fort Bay store and is part of AML Foods Limited’s goal of creating community-minded activities to help shoppers learn more about living a healthier lifestyle.

At 6.30am, the 5K Fun Walk will begin in the store’s parking lot with participants travelling to Lyford Cay and back. All walk participants will receive medals and category winners will receive prizes. People are encouraged to pre-register at any Solomon’s Registration for $15, which includes a T-shirt, gift bag and giveaways. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas.

In addition to the walk, participants can take advantage of free health screenings (glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure), bio-metric assessments and product sampling during the health fair running from 8am to 1pm. Doctors Hospital will be at the fair with their blood mobile. 

Vendors include BahLeaf, Women’s Haven, Pop Stop, Esscentrix, Bentonite Beauty Clay, Nassau Agencies, Generali, Naturally Bahamian, Jay Fitness, Cosmosis Yoga Studio, and more.

Additionally, Fresh Market offers its “Eye on Health” seminars which are popular among shoppers.

“In recent months we have invited health care professionals and fitness experts to provide information that our shoppers can easily incorporate into their lives,” said Shonalee Johnson, public relations officer.

“The initiative is an opportunity to educate our community on ways to live a healthier lifestyle. The event also allows Fresh Market to provide information on incorporating fresh, natural and organic ingredients and physical activity into daily living.”

She said people can learn much more about health and wellness options available and can interact directly with vendors to hear about the benefits of using their products or services.

“We are looking forward to supporting our local farmers and artisans at the Farmers and Craft Market which is held every second Saturday of the month at our Old Fort Bay location,” she said.
