THE Bahamas Tennis Federation is all set to host the North American IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge at the National Tennis Centre this weekend with teams from Barbados, USA, Mexico and the Bahamas participating.
The competition features top players 16 years of age and under in the North American grouping.
Representing the Bahamas is a quartet of talented juniors, inclusive of Gabrielle Simms, Peyton Anderson, Jacobi Bain and Denali Nottage.
In 2004, the International Lawn Tennis Club (IC) Junior Challenge was introduced. In this tournament teams of boys and girls of 16-and-under represent their countries and take part in elimination competitions on their continent.
With this format IC’s objective for the boys and girls is that they “experience the pleasure of performing where interdependency is key.”
The IC motto of “Hands across the net, friendship across the ocean” embodies the spirit of tennis sportsmanship.
Matches start on Saturday and admission is free to the public to support our local junior tennis talent as they compete for the opportunity to advance to The Worldwide Finals.
