FIVE University of the Bahamas men's basketball players posted double figures as the Mingoes defeated the BIBT Great Whites 73-62 and remained undefeated in the New Providence Basketball Association.
Robert Joseph dropped 17 points with five rebounds to lead the Mingoes to the win at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Christoph McKenzie added 15 points and seven assists, Romero Cornish scored 13 points with 9 boards and Rus-Shorn Strachan scored 10.
Rashad Sturrup led all rebounders with 14 to go along with 12 points.
The Mingoes remain undefeated at 3-0 in Division 1 play.
The Great Whites dropped to 0-3.
Nathan Sullivan scored 22 to lead the Great Whites in the loss. Jason Collie had 13 points and Jerard Ferguson had 12.
The Mingoes dominated the contest from the opening tip for the win.
Sturrup, with a quick pull-up jumper, put the Mingoes up 2-0 and really never looked back.
Despite early game ties, the Mingoes held a double-digit lead for most of the second quarter onward.
The Mingoes defence was spectacular with 26 fast-break points in the win while out rebounding the Great Whites 61-48.
Joseph said the Mingoes relied mostly on their inside game to pick up the win.
"We barely could hit any outside shots so we started driving and dumping off to score," he said.
The Mingoes scored 40 points in the paint on the night. "This win keeps us motivated for the rest of the season though."
McKenzie added that the team's game plan was simple. "We listened to coach and we pushed and executed the plays," he said. "We were pushing the ball hard as well."
The Mingoes next play at 9pm Saturday against the Rockets and then play another international two-game set in December.
