After day 2, Weech 36th overall at Optimist Championships

JOSHUA Weech set a personal goal of being a top 30 finisher at the 2019 Optimist North American Championships and the Bahamas’ team captain made a major advancement toward that goal on day two.

Weech continues to lead the performances from Team Bahamas and posted a team high seventh place finish in the final race yesterday.

After his second race on day one went unflagged, Weech rebounded with two of his top two three outings at the championships thus far.

In the Blue Group, he sailed to a 10th place finish in race four, 20th place in race five and capped off the day with a seventh place in race six. He is currently in 36th place overall with a net score of 70.

Maison Koepke (129) has a net score of 184 after finishes of 38, 37 and 43 yesterday.

David Huber (No.137, Blue Group) has a net score of 211 after finishes of 40, 48 and 49.

Also in the Blue Group, Kaemen Floyd (139) posted a net score of 271 after finishing 50th, 54th and 53rd.

Zane Munro moved into the Bahamas’ top five and one spot behind Floyd in the field (No.140, Red Group). He finished at 44, 47, 46 yesterday for a net score of 218.

Cameron Eldon moved up six spots from day one (No.143, Yellow Group) with a net score of 222 despite a black flag disqualification in race five. He also finished 46th in race four and 33rd in race six.

Matthew Reid also has a net score of 22 (No.145, Red Group) and sailed to finishes of 53, 48 and 49. Patrick Tomlinson is one spot behind with 223 points and ranked No.146. He finished 50, 53, 49 in the Red Group.

Craig Ferguson was another Bahamian sailor who improved his place in the field after a pair of disqualifications on day one.

He finished with a championship best 21st place in race four, 55th in race five and 56th in race six with the Blue Group (No.149). The remainder of the Bahamians in the 164-member field includes: Jasmin Aberle (No.151, Blue Group) with a net score of 229 points - 47, 45, 41.

Mary Jacqueline Nash (No.153, Yellow Group) with 235 points - 51, 50, 52.

Amy McSweeney (No.157, Yellow Group) scored 239 in the six race series 48, 49, 50.

Finley McKinney-Lambert (No.160, Red Group) with 256 points - 51, 50, 52.

Saoirse Duffy (No.161, Blue Group) with 159 points - 49, 52 and 54

Scarlett McCarroll (No.163, Blue Group) with 264 points - 51, 52, 54

Conry Raine (No.164, Yellow Group) with 155 points - 56, 51, 53.
