IT was another record-setting day for Michael Strachan as he continues to be a leading receiver in NCAA Division II football.

Strachan set a University of Charleston Golden Eagles single season mark for receptions after his performance in Saturday’s 42-3 homecoming win over Greenville State College Pioneers. The redshirt junior receiver totalled nine receptions for 175 yards and four touchdowns. On the season, Strachan has totalled 67 receptions for 1,060 yards and 15 touchdowns - all career highs and conference leading numbers. He also averages 8.4 catches and 132.5 yards per game.

Strachan leads the Mountain East Conference in every receiving category and leads all of Division II in both receptions and touchdowns.

The Golden Eagles improved to 5-3 on the season.

After the Pioneers struck first on a 48-yard field goal, the Golden Eagles scored 42 unanswered points. Late in the first quarter, UC quarterback Brant Grisell connected with Strachan on a 34-yard pass for the Golden Eagles’ first score of the contest. Their second connection was a four-yard reception for a 21-3 lead. They opened the fourth quarter when Grisel found Strachan on a 41-yard pass for the 35-3 lead.

His fourth reception was a one-handed 25-yard grab for the game’s final margin.

It was Strachan’s second nine-reception game of the season and was his third highest yardage total.

Also in Division II, Rondre Knowles-Tener continues to become a force on the defensive line in his second season with the University of Virginia-Wise Cavaliers. He set a career high with seven tackles in Saturday’s 45-13 loss to No.12 Wingate.

The junior defensive tackle currently leads the Cavs with 5.5 sacks in their first year of play in the South Atlantic Conference. He also reached several other career high marks this season with 31 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss and two quarterback hurries.
