A MAN and a woman were arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with videos posted on social media of the two allegedly threatening to rob people due to COVID-19 restrictions in the country.
Marque Beckford Jr, 27, and Ra’Queisha McPhee, 26, stood before Magistrate Andrew Forbes yesterday afternoon charged with causing public terror in relation to several videos that surfaced online on April 15.
It is alleged that the two used a cellphone to “intentionally and unlawfully” threaten to rob individuals as result of COVID-19 orders recently implemented by Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis.
McPhee yesterday admitted to committing the actions but she denied doing so with the intention to cause public harm and to provoke Beckford.
Still, both pleaded not guilty to the incident and bail was granted in the amount of $1,000 with one surety each.
Magistrate Forbes also ordered the defendants to be outfitted with electronic devices to ensure that officers are made aware of their whereabouts. The duo are also not allowed to be in contact with each other.
Failure to comply with the orders will result in their bail being revoked and ultimately the two being remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
Magistrate Forbes adjourned the matter to October 6th at 10 am.
