A MAN who threatened to kill the mother of his child during an argument was yesterday ordered to complete 40 hours of community service.

Keith Forbes, 30, was arrested after he issued death threats to his ex-girlfriend on December 14.

The prosecution said the complainant was on Nassau Street when Forbes approached her and threatened to kill her. She filed an official complaint with police. Forbes was arrested a short time later.

In an interview with police, he admitted to being involved in an argument with his child’s mother, but denied threatening to kill her during the altercation.

During the hearing, the accused told the magistrate the incident occurred right after Forbes and the complainant left child support court. He said when the defendant tried to speak with his eight-year-old son after the proceedings, the child’s mother became irate. Mr Cargill said in the heat of the moment, Forbes told the woman “That’s how y’all people is (end up) dead”.

He admitted his guilt and Magistrate Armbrister granted Forbes a conditional discharge on the agreement he would complete 40 hours of community service. He warned him if he didn’t, he would be sentenced to two weeks on remand.
