RASHIELD Williams, now training in the Philippines, picked up his third victory with a third knockout over Rege Pahayag in the men’s welterweight division in amateur boxing. The fight was held in Tagaytay, Philippines.

After the fight, Williams said he was quite pleased with his performance.

“It was a good fight. He was a very strong, aggressive guy,” Williams said.

“But I kept my composure. He hit me with everything he had, but he couldn’t take my body shots.”

With his left hand, Williams hit Pahayag to the kidney to signal the end of the fight in the third round.

“I knew he was a guy who was coming to fight,” Williams pointed out. “He’s an experienced guy. He had a lot of fights, so he knew what it meant to be in the ring. He knows what it was to face a tough opponent.

“He did his path, but I had more strength than him.”

With the win, Williams improved his young professional boxing career to 3-1.

He won his second straight, winning his previous fight on December 21, 2019, when he stopped Jurland Ceniza.

Prior to that, Williams suffered his first loss on a split decision to Jurvaune James. He made a successful debut on February 9 over Carlos Monroy.

Williams will remain in the Philippines as he continues his training in preparation for his next scheduled fight on March 14.

“We train until we travel to another site to fight an opponent there,” Williams said.

He publicly thanked Andre Seymour, a former national boxing coach, and sponsor Trevor Strachan, for their assistance in helping to get to the Philippines.
