A man was ordered to complete community service after he pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Gerreth Smith, 26, appeared before Magistrate Sandradee Gardiner after officers seized 12 grams of Indian Hemp from him on June 29.
He pleaded guilty and was conditionally discharged on the agreement he would complete 70 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Kenny Thompson said around 11am that day, officers, armed with a search warrant, went to Smith’s home. Sgt Thompson said upon their arrival, the officers recognised the strong scent of marijuana emanating from the house. While searching the western bedroom, the officers discovered a clear jar containing a quantity of suspected marijuana. Smith was subsequently arrested and taken to the Drug Enforcement Unit. In an interview with police there, he told officers he had bought the drugs to smoke while he was home. According to the prosecution, the drugs had an estimated street value of $50.
Noel Lamm Jr also appeared before Magistrate Gardiner after he was accused of being in possession of a quantity of Indian hemp and methoxyamphetamine on June 28. He denied the allegations and the matter was adjourned to September 17 for trial.
Lamm Jr was released on $1,500 bail in the interim.
