Teenager accused of raping woman

A TEENAGER was remanded to prison yesterday over allegations he raped a woman last week.

Indico Bethel, 18, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney charged with one count of rape after he was accused of having sexual intercourse with a 24-year-old woman without her consent on June 24.

Bethel was not required to enter a plea and the matter was adjourned to September 4 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until trial.

He has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.

In a separate case, a 34-year-old man was charged with attempted rape.

Jamaal Bain appeared before Magistrate McKinney after he was accused of attempting to having sex with an 18-year-old without her consent on May 5.

During the hearing, he was not required to enter a plea and the matter was adjourned to September 4 for service of a VBI.

Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in the interim.

Bain, who is represented by attorney Keith Seymour, also has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
