I do not know the owners of the fabled Compass Point but it seems to me that they are being badly advised. Whoever those advisers are they should be replaced as soon as possible. It is most insulting and a non compliance with protocol.
One of the principals regularly places full page ads in the dailies seemingly demanding a meeting with the Minister of Tourism & Aviation and some other nebulous demands. This is not the way foreign investors/residents publicly behave. The owners have gone so far as to say that they will close the place down and to hell with it all if their demands are not realised.
I am all for Foreign Direct Investment and God knows we need a dray load of that right now. No Bahamian government, on behalf of our people should ever cave into a foreign entity in these circumstances. If the owners were to leave I am certain that there would be tremendous interest by local and international investors to acquire it and bring it back to its former glory.
Compass Point is the crown jewel of the West Strip. God has given us an invaluable patrimony. We have no problem with foreign investors et al enjoying a slice of the same with us but you cannot simply tell the government of a sovereign nation to put up or shut up. No, sir. To God then in all of these things be the glory.
