THE Public Hospitals Authority is continuing to build its fleet of emergency vehicles in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian last year.
The devastating storm significantly impacted the National Emergency Medical Services’ ambulance fleet, destroying ambulances serving Abaco, Grand Bahama and New Providence. On Friday, June 26, the PHA received delivery of three new ambulances as part of the ongoing fleet replacement programme. The emergency vehicles were manufactured by Wheeled Coach, Rev Ambulance Group in Orlando Florida and are valued at approximately $150,000 each. NEMS director, Dr Alvery Hanna said in the aftermath of Dorian in September, PHA assigned donated ambulances from its fleet in New Providence to service Abaco and Grand Bahama. She said: “Two of the ambulances will remain in New Providence and one will be deployed to Grand Bahama.”
PHA has prioritised the replacement of the NEMS vehicle fleet following the near total loss of ambulances in Grand Bahama and Abaco resulting from Hurricane Dorian.
