John Watling’s Distillery has relaunched the hand sanitiser created to combat COVID-19 under the Buena Vista Estate name.

Just three months after its initial launch, the company said it has has partnered with Blanco Chemicals to locally source spray tops, 16 ounce and one gallon bottles. It has also imported more than 40,000 litres of ethyl alcohol to ensure The Bahamas has ample supply of the hand sanitiser’s main ingredient; alcohol.

John Watling’s has also worked with Nicky Saddleon to redesign its packaging under the Buena Vista Estate brand. The market has been flooded with hand sanitisers due to the pandemic, but the company argued that not all contain the recommended 60 percent alcohol content to ensure COVID-19’s destruction.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that “if soap and water are not available, CDC [Center for Disease Control] recommends consumers use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains a minimum of 60 percent alcohol”.

John Watling’s Distillery said it has launched the Buena Vista Estate hand sanitiser at 70 percent alcohol by volume. It also contains distilled water, hydrogen peroxide which kills bacterial spores, and vegetable glycerin, which reduces skin dryness.

Distribution to pharmacies, clinics and hospitals is co-ordinated through Bahamas Medical & Surgical Supplies, located at 159 Shirley Street.
