A 26-year-old man who was caught with three grams of cocaine was fined $200 in Magistrates Court yesterday.
Darrio Duncombe appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux, charged with one count of dangerous drug possession. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200 or three months in prison.
Prosecutor Kenny Thompson said around 10.25am officers on mobile patrol near Balfour Avenue observed the defendant in a silver Honda. Sgt Thompson said when Duncombe noticed the officers, he began to act suspicious. As a result, they approached him and informed him he would be searched in reference to dangerous drugs and firearms. During their investigation, officers retrieved one clear plastic bag containing seven brown paper wraps which all contained a quantity of suspected cocaine.
Yesterday, Parshad Johnson, 27, also appeared before Magistrate Turnquest-Deveaux, charged with marijuana possession with the intent to supply.
The court heard officers were on mobile patrol when they observed the defendant look in their direction before throwing an object to the ground. When the officers observed the item, they discovered a green Grabba leaf package which contained two clear packages with 17 Ziploc bags containing a quantity of suspected marijuana. The officers then searched Johnson and found another package and plastic wrap in the waistband of his boxers. They also found $1,126 they believed was derived from the proceeds of crime on Johnson’s person. According to the prosecution, the drugs had an estimated weight of 19 grams and a street value of $95.
During the hearing, Johnson pleaded guilty and was fined $500 or six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
