The Nassau Tribune has reported that a 61-year-old Nassau woman has contracted the coronavirus disease. I am hoping that this breaking news does not spark a new wave of pandemonium throughout the nation. John Hopkins has reported, as of March 15, 162,687 confirmed cases of the COVID-19, with 6,065 reported deaths and 75,620 recoveries. What this tells me is that COVID-19 isn’t necessarily a death sentence.

Bahamians must remain calm. US President Donald Trump had declared March 15 a National Day of Prayer for his nation. I believe that the Bahamas Christian Council has emulated the leader of the Free World by calling on all Bahamians to pray for divine intervention. Second Chronicles 7:14 reads: “If My people, who are called by My name shall pray, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.” The key to this verse is that the one praying must “turn” from his wicked ways. While The Bahamas has a vibrant Christian community, our high murder rate; rampant promiscuity; drug, gambling and alcohol addiction; drug trafficking, euthanasia, abortion, teenage rebellion, armed robberies, housebreakings, rape, incest, occultism, political and ecclesiastical corruption; and loose living are all indications that the nation has collectively turned its back on God. We need to follow the example of the Ninevites in the Old Testament Book of Jonah by turning away from sin.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a stubborn reminder that God is sovereign, and that the nations of the world are morally accountable to Him. This pandemic has brought First World countries to their knees. Each Christian should weep between the porch and the altar for The Bahamas!
