POLICE in Grand Bahama are warning motorists not to speed after a woman was killed in a traffic accident this week.
The accident occurred around 5.30pm Tuesday on Queen’s Highway in the vicinity of Holmes Rock Avenue, involving three vehicles – a silver Pontiac, a red Honda Accord, and an Acura vehicle.
Assistant Superintendent Alphonso Pinder, of the Police Traffic Division, said speed was a contributing factor in the incident, and is appealing to motorists to adhere to the speed limit.
ASP Pinder reported that initial investigations revealed that two vehicles were traveling east on Queen’s Highway, and a third was traveling west, and attempted to turn right when a collision occurred.
The female driver died after colliding into a bus stop, and she was ejected from the vehicle. A male driver was injured and taken to hospital; the second male driver was not injured.
“We can say that speed was definitely a contributing factor,” said ASP Pinder. “We want to send a message to the motoring public that speed is a killer and to please obey the speed limit signs because they are there for a reason. Even though we are under a COVID-19 curfew period, persons must not use it as an opportunity to speed.”
