EDITOR, The Tribune
In the words or Robbie Burns. “The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft a-gley”
What was supposed to be a news lead on the inefficiencies in government, was actually an e-mail from a friend of mine which I forwarded to The Tribune to give a flavour of their misadventure. Somehow it has ended up as a letter to the Editor in The Tribune (May 26).
Perhaps you would clarify that I have not been off island, nor returned under circumstances described.
Thanks and regards,
BRUCE RAINE
May 26, 2020
Mr Raine was referring to the following letter, which a returning resident, who was put into quarantine on landing in the Bahamas, wrote to him to tell of his experience. It was sent to The Tribune, but was not made clear that in fact it was a personal letter to Mr Raine, and not Mr Raine himself. The letter was published in Tuesday’s Tribune.
It is republished below:
Well, I am quarantined. The entire disorganized, chaotic, non-informational, contrary answerings, confused Ministries and personnel and nobody knowing what the other is doing nor how to proceed and layers of dumb and dumber people with the 12 hours experience to move from the check-in counter in Florida to getting to Breezes has made me more determined to sell everything I have in the Bahamas and get out. Cannot wait.
Frankly, if I could get out of this country tomorrow, I would be gone. Bahamas is Finished!
At this point we are stuck here as team one that went to our house for an inspection for self-quarantine last week never wrote a report. So everything is on hold until another bunch of idiots get there, hopefully remember to write up a report, get that report back to Breezes and have at least 5-6 people read and check the reports, we will be stuck right here.

Beautiful. It is very important to find out who wrote this letter, so that we can blame them for spouting the truth. The messenger is definitely the problem. They should be crucified. It is almost beyond belief that we allow people who have reasonable expectations to live in this country. We should make people aware that when they enter The Bahamas they will be entering a world which has no accountability, no recourse, not a care for you in the world. They don't seem to care about their own citizens. Why would you expect them to care about you? If this is not true, why after decades and decades of successive governments, why are we still operating as if it is 1958? Why is every public institution losing money and collapsing? Post office, PMH, BOB, Bahamas Air, Water & Sewerage, Immigration, and on and on. Is this untrue? Did this all happen because of Dorian and Coronavirus? Until we become honest with ourselves, we will all continue to suffer increasing indignities.

Amen! The rapidly accelerating slide to the bottom since independence continues apace.
