A MAN who claimed he violated curfew because he went to a family member to borrow some money was fined $250 yesterday.
Police arrested Shamarco Smith, 42, when they found him in Sandilands Village around 10.57am on October 17.
He pleaded guilty during a hearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
The court was told that on the day in question, officers observed Smith walking on Sandilands Village Road. When they approached and questioned him, he could not give a “satisfactory explanation” for breaching the curfew. As a result, he was ticketed for the offence and given a date to appear in court.
When given an opportunity to speak, Smith told the magistrate that he had only left his home to visit his cousin who lived nearby and had told him that he could borrow some money from him.
He was subsequently fined $250 or one month at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
