A 35-year-old man who threatened to harm his neighbour last week was yesterday discharged with a warning.

Amein Burrows appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans after he was accused of threatening to harm Cameron Jones on November 16.

The court heard around 6pm that day, Mr Jones got into an argument with Mr Burrows at his farm off of Cowpen Road. The prosecution said during the disagreement, the defendant told Mr Jones he would expletive him up. His comments caused the complainant to fear for his life and prompted him to file an official complaint with police. Mr Burrows was arrested a short time later. In an interview with police at a nearby station, he admitted being involved in an argument with Mr Jones on the day in question, but denied making any threats towards him.

During the hearing, Mr Burrows was represented by attorney Devard Francis. He told the magistrate the argument happened between two neighbours. He said Mr Burrows owned his own landscaping company and noted that he also pleaded guilty at his earliest opportunity to avoid wasting the court’s time and resources. As a result, after accepting Mr Burrows’ guilty plea, Magistrate Vogt-Evans discharged the defendant with a warning.

Yesterday, Mr Burrows was also charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle. He pleaded guilty to that charge and was fined $200 for committing the offence and another $50 for the warrant of arrest that was issued for him.

Magistrate Vogt-Evans said if he failed to pay the fines, he would be sentenced to six days at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
