The trio of Bahamian players in the Japanese B-League were all in action over the weekend with mixed results for their respective teams.
Kadeem Coleby continues to be a force with the undefeated Akita Northern Happinets, Mark St. Fort signed with a new club, the Nagita Albirex while Gijo Bain and the Sanen Neophoenix are still in search of their first win.
Coleby and the Happinets improved to 4-0 with a pair of double digit wins over the Kyoto Hannaryz.
In game one, Coleby scored a team high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 90-71 win. He shot 10-11 from the field and also added two blocks and two assists. In game two, 79-68, Coleby recorded his second double double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Through four games this season, Coleby is averaging 14.3 points and 7.8 per game in his fourth season with the Happinets.
St Fort signed with the Nagita Albirex after he played sparingly in two contests with the Mikawa Seahorses.
He finished with 13 points and five rebounds in his only appearance for Nagita thus far, an 89-75 loss to the Ryukyu Golden Kings. Nagita fell to 2-3 on the season.
Gijo Bain is averaging 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for Sanen Neophoenix thus far as they remain winless on the season.
In last weekend’s series against Seahorses Mikawa, Bain finished with four points and a team high seven rebounds in an 85-57 loss and followed with four points and six rebounds in just nine minutes of a 63-55 loss.
In game two of the season against the Chiba Jets, Bain scored a season high eight points on 4-6 shooting from the field in a 103-54 loss.
This is the B League’s fifth season after the COVID-19 pandemic brought an early end to the 2019-20 season. Each team will play 60 regular season games. The playoffs commence on May 13 and the finals will follow on May 29.
