POLICE are continuing investigations into a traffic accident that took the life of a motorcyclist on Tuesday.
The accident occurred shortly after 5pm on the Eastern Road involving a red 70cc Yamaha motorcycle and a red and black 70cc Yamaha Crypton motorcycle. Both cyclists were travelling west along the Eastern Road when they reportedly collided into each other.
This resulted in the riders, both men, being thrown off their motorcycles and receiving extensive injuries. Paramedics were called. One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The coroner visited the scene and traffic police are investigating.
Police are also investigating an armed robbery that occurred just after midnight yesterday.
According to police, a man was at the intersection of Washington Street and Balfour Avenue when he was accosted by two males who exited a red Chevy vehicle, one armed with a handgun. They robbed him of cash and a cell phone.
The culprits then headed east on Balfour Avenue. Moments later, a mobile unit stopped a vehicle fitting the description on Marathon Road with three occupants. A search was conducted, and officers found a quantity of cash.
The suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
