Road Traffic backlog

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The Ministry of Transport’s plan to reactivate the West Bay Street car-licensing facility is good news, but doesn’t go far enough.

We can only hope it happens in a matter of days as opposed to weeks, months or even years.

I seriously doubt it will be sufficient to deal with the backlog given the reduced operating hours.

Friends and family have told me of the nightmare they went through to license their vehicles, queuing for up to six hours, cramped and desperate for a proper restroom. This is not how you treat human beings.

No one should have to wait more than 30 minutes to have their vehicle inspected and licensed.

Moving forward, ask the insurance companies if they’d be willing to inspect vehicles when customers renew their policies.

I’m sure a lot of motorists would agree to pay an extra fee if given the option, rather than having to endure the Road Traffic Disaster. It would allow them to kill two birds with one stone.

It would also ensure the life of the insurance and car licence runs concurrently without a lapse in coverage.

It would reduce congestion at Road Traffic, making it easier for motorists who opt to license at those facilities at the regular price.

And it would lessen the load on the workers, perhaps allowing them to process driver’s licences faster (assuming they don’t run out of licences again).
