SUPER Value’s owner Rubert Roberts said the food store chain is mourning the death of an employee but could not say if it is COVID-19 related.
It was claimed on social media that a store employee died several days ago, allegedly from COVID-19, and concerns were raised about store sanitisation.
When contacted, Mr Roberts told The Tribune he was not aware of a person infected a few weeks ago at the store in question, but said the company is mourning the death of an employee from that store. He said the deceased employee worked in the deli department.
Asked if the employee died from COVID, he added the chain store “can’t get into the medical” details.
“We know that she wasn’t well. We stopped her from working and she went around - she tried to work. She was sent home by her supervisor. I heard she showed up to a friend’s house. Her friend sent her to the hospital. I heard on Saturday morning she had a massive stroke.”
The food store owner said the company has gone to great lengths to protect both staff and customers amid the coronavirus pandemic and noted some of their measures.
He said: “We constantly disinfect, but we sanitise - (have) professional sanitisation at all of our stores. That store was done three weeks ago…..as a precaution to make the staff feel better we did it again over the weekend. I think it was last Sunday night. We did the warehouse (in) the afternoon.”
