Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr got his first start of the 2021 season at shortstop, but his Miami Marlins continued to struggle with their third consecutive loss.
The St Louis Cardinals completed a three-game sweep over the Marlins with a 7-0 win in the series finale last night at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.
Chisholm went 0-3 at the plate, but the entire Marlins lineup struggled in the shutout and managed just three hits as they fell to 1-5 on the season.
Defensively, he turned a 3-6-3 double play with first baseman Jesus Aguilar in the first inning, and had an active sixth where he fielded two of the three ground outs to end the inning.
Chisholm took the place in the starting lineup for Miguel Rojas who had started the first five games of the season. Chisholm sat out the opening game of the Cardinals series for rest on Monday night.
“We knew we’re going to have to be a little careful with some guys, and Miggy has been one guy that has not been down the lineup,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola.
“We’ve got to be careful with those guys using the off-day. Still, we felt they’re in good shape. But with Miggy, we just wanted to give him a little breather today. I’d rather do it with Jazz at short, when we do that if we can.”
In his debut season, Chisholm spent the bulk of his time on the field at second base but made nine appearances with six starts at shortstop.
“In 51 2/3 innings, Chisholm committed one error, turned three double plays and posted zero outs above average and 0.3 range runs above average (UZR),” according to MLB.com.
Miami opens a three-game series on the road today against the New York Mets at Citi Field in New York. First pitch is set for 1:10pm.

Why have Chisolm come up but not Lewin Diaz, Monte Harrison, Jesus Sanchez etc? Should never have wasted $ on Dickerson and Aguilar. Ain't getting crap for them at the deadline either.
