A TEENAGER who last month fought another youngster who accused him of being a homosexual was yesterday placed on a daily curfew.

Police arrested Dwight Dernier, 18, after he punched another young man in the head on March 26.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

The prosecution said the complainant was in Kennedy Subdivision when Dernier ran into the yard he was standing in, swung at him and hit him in his head. After he filed his complaint, he requested police action. Officers investigating the matter arrested the accused a short time later. When he was questioned in custody, he told officers the argument took place because people were calling him a “sissy” and a “fight broke out”.

After listening to the prosecution’s facts, Magistrate Vogt-Evans accepted Dernier’s guilty plea and imposed a daily 4pm-7am curfew on him.

She told the school boy in the presence of his parents that he had to be home by 4pm and was not allowed to leave his residence until 7am the next day.

She said the punishment would help Dernier stay out of trouble and would also ensure he had “more than enough time” to study for the upcoming national examinations.
