A 39-year-old man was remanded to prison over allegations he had sex with a girl when she was just 12-years-old.
Frederick Cleare appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes charged with one count each of unlawful sexual intercourse, attempted unlawful sexual intercourse and indecent assault stemming out of three incidents that occurred nearly a decade ago.
It is alleged the accused attempted to have sex with an 11-year-old girl sometime between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2011.
It is further alleged he had sexual intercourse with the same girl sometime between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2012, after she turned 12 years old.
Cleare is also accused of indecently assaulting the young girl sometime within that same timeframe.
Due to the nature of the offences, he was not required to enter a plea and his case was adjourned to June 7 for the service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
In the meantime, the accused, who is represented by attorney Bjorn Ferguson, was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
He has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
